Arriving in Panama

Most of our guests arrive via Tocumen Airport in Panama City. Upon arrival you will then need to obtain transportation to David City in Chiriqui, either by bus, rental car (most major rental car companies are available) or by plane. If you arrive in Panama City early enough it is possible to fly to David City the same day.

A taxi from the airport to Panama City should cost $40 or less, for two people and luggage.  We have a favorite taxi driver, Victor, (kinda bilingual- speak slowly) cell phone number 507-6683-2707, make sure to mention our Resort.

UPDATE: Jan. 2006 - You can now fly from San Jose, Costa Rica to David City, a new flight added to Air Panama (formerly Aereo Turismo).   At the present time you must arrive in San Jose in time to catch the one flight to David at 11:30am on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. (www.flyairpanama.com) It is expected that Aeroperlas will add this flight path also in the near future. (www.aeroperlas.com).  NOTE - If you are flying in from the US we have found the following website to have the best prices on tickets: www.flycheapabroad.com

Recommended hotels are:
Closest to the Albrook Airport - (useful for departing Panama City to David ) The ALBROOK INN ph. 507-315-1789, is the closest place to stay to the Albrook Airport, great especially if you are going to catch the first flight out in the morning!  They do not have a restaurant.  They have a continental breakfast, but if you are catching the earliest flight, it will not be set up yet.  You can buy a cup of coffee and a breakfast treat at the airport.
Website: http://www.albrookinn.com  -  Email:  reserva@albrookinn.com

Closest to Tocumen Airport - (useful upon departure from Panama City).  The RIANDE Aeropuerto, ph. 507-290-3333, is the closest hotel to the Tocumen Airport, the international airport for leaving Panama. http://www.hotelesriande.com/aeropuerto/index.asp
Email:  aeropuerto1@hotelsriande.com

Hotels within Panama City:
El Parador - clean rooms, some suites, swimming pool on the roof, quiet within walking distance of shopping and restaurants, reasonably priced. PH. 507-214-4586 or 507-214-4587

Hotel Milan - Clean quiet rooms, some suites, restaurant, new hotel, low range cost. e-mail: hotelmilan@cwpanama.net We stay here frequently when we go in and out of the City.

El Panama - www.elpanama.com Very large hotel with a casino.  Higher range cost.  All three of these hotels are within walking distance of each other and shopping.

Close places to eat within walking distance of these hotels:
Pomadoro- Great Italian food, fabulous ambiance. We ALWAYS eat there on our trips to the City.  Los Manolos - Panamanian cooking, good food fast.

From Panama City you will need to fly out of a smaller airport, Albrook Airport (new name is Gelabert Airport). Taxis are plentiful and the ride takes about 20 minutes from the above hotels, and costs about $40.

From Costa Rica UPDATE: Jan. 2006 - You can now fly from San Jose, Costa Rica to David City, a new flight added to Air Panama (formerly Aereo Turismo) At the present time you must arrive in San Jose in time to catch the one flight to David at 11:30am on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. (www.flyairpanama.com) It is expected that Aeroperlas will add this flight path also in the near future. (www.aeroperlas.com)

Upon arrival in David, we can provide you with ground transportation to Gone Fishing Panama.  If you want to use our ground transportation service please read below: "Transportation from David City to Gone Fishing Panama Resort." Or the rental car companies are right at the airport.

We recommend the following places to stay in David City:
Puerto Del Sol: A very popular hotel, with a restaurant. Reasonably priced. Centrally located, by the square.  Ask for a room in the back off the street. (011) 507-774-8422 or e-mail at: reservations@puertodelsol.net  We have stayed here, the staff are friendly and the rooms are very clean.  They have one room with a Jacuzzi.

Gran Hotel National: Centrally located. Higher end pricing.  Pool. Casino website: http://www.panamainfo.com/granhotelnacional/

Helicopter transportation to our Resort is now available:

arrangements made upon request. One way or roundtrip.

From Panama City:  There are numerous car rental agencies but we recommend that you reserve a vehicle before leaving home, and remember to get a confirmation number.  (Avis, Budget, Hertz...) .  If you want to drive to David City from Panama City, about a 6 hour drive, a regular car will be fine.  We can pick you up in David City or at the airport.  For some reason there are additional fees for dropping a rental car off at the airport  so you might want to turn it in at the car rental company in David City.  We also suggest that you use your American Express Gold as they automatically cover the insurances, check with American Express. (These insurances really make the car rental costs go way up.)

If you decide to drive to Boca Chica, please print (copy and paste) these directions:

From Panama City:  take the Pan-American Highway toward Costa Rica. After about 5 hours you will go through San Lorenzo. Upon (approximately 3-4 miles) exiting San Lorenzo you will come to a four way intersection. There is a Super-Mini (General Store) named Isabel's on your right. Turn left and follow the signs to Boca Chica.

From David City:  take the Pan- Am. Hwy. toward Panama City. After about 35 minutes, you will come to a long straight rolling hill, marker 401. You will see a small sign for "Horconcito" on your right. Make the right turn, turning south. Take this road through Horconcitos. At the three way divide in downtown Horconcitos, take the center road (look for our sign) this part of the journey should take about 10 - 15 minutes. Make a left turn at the sign "Boca Chica" onto the gray paved road. There is another sign also, Gone Fishing Panama Resort. Keep on the main road, at the “v” in the road keep right. After about 25 minutes, there's a Gone Fishing Panama Resort sign, make a left and follow this road to the end. Welcome to Gone Fishing Panama Resort!

Transportation from David City to Gone Fishing Panama Resort:
There is a $125 fee for this round trip transportation service. ( 2 people - each additional person is $25.)

For those arriving by air and desiring Transportation to Gone Fishing Panama Resort:
